Helen Cowgill


Helen Cowgill was born in Long Preston in 1937.


Part A:  Helen talks about her childhood with her two sisters and memories of school during wartime. Recalls her parents, Harry & Edith Cowgill taking over the Post Office.


Part B:  Helen relates her parents moving to the Conservative Club as caretakers and moving the Post office to there as well. Her parents then buying the shop which is the present Post Office, later they retired to Pendle View. Helen then talks about  secondary schooling in Settle.
Became a teacher and emigrated for a period to New Zealand, then taught in South of England then came back to Yorkshire.


Part C:  Helen talks about early childhood holidays, going to the pictures and travelling circuses and fairs. Remembers the milk being delivered by horse & cart.
