Railway Station Model Comes Home

Friday & Saturday 1st & 2nd April 2011

In July 2009 the Heritage Group staged a Railway History Exhibition which featured the large scale model of Long Preston Station and sidings operated by the Wakefield Modeller’s Railway Society. The owner of the model, Jamie Guest, has dismantled it to start on a new model of Lancaster Green Ayre Station, and has kindly donated to the village the central part of the Long Preston model, depicting the station. The Village Hall Committee agreed to this being permanently installed in the Village Hall.

Members of the Heritage Group modified the storage cabinets to accommodate the model , which just fitted in with barely an inch to spare lengthways.

The unveiling ceremony was held on Friday 1st April 2011 and a Coffee Morning was held on Saturday 2nd to show off the model in it’s new location, together with display boards about the history of the railway.

The model was unveiled by the Jamie and his colleagues from Wakefield, who helped him build the model and operate the full model layout at exhibitions. The model of the station is now on permanent display in the Village Hall and makes an attractive backdrop to the many function that are held there.
