WW1 MEMORIAL

Long Preston Honours its Fallen Men

On the evening of Saturday 6th December 2014 a permanent memorial to the men
from Long Preston who died in the First World War was placed in the Village Hall.
The memorial, with photos of each of the 15 men who died, was unveiled by Stewart Robertshaw, Chair of the Village Hall, on the right. He is watched by Stephen Ward, on the left who is the grandson of William Ward. William was the Headteacher at Long Preston school prior to being called up and was killed in action on 27 June 1918.

The unveiling was followed by a screening of War Horse. This was a themed evening with a café style layout, attended by about 50 people. The events formed part of the Heritage Group’s First World War project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
